Peddigree Irish Limousin Cattle Breeders
Located in the shade of the picturesque Cooley & Slieve Gullion Mountains the Ultimate Pedigree Limousin herd is based at Clonaleenan House & Farm, Co Louth – one of the oldest recorded farm houses in Ireland. Beef & Dairy cattle have been farmed at Clonaleenan House & Farm since 1710. Impressed with the favourable benefits of cross breeding commercial cattle with the Limousin breed we established a pedigree Limousin herd to compliment our existing livestock holdings with the aim of running a medium sized beef herd while maintaining milking ability & retaining Cross-bred animals as commercial cattle.
Great emphasis has been placed on sourcing high quality breeding females & genetics from top herds across Ireland, the UK & France. The herd uses AI to obtain top genetics & EBV’s. Our best cows are flushed using top Limousin sires. Embryo transfer is used regularly to achieve 100% bloodlines from our best performing cattle.
Why Ulitmate Limousin?
The history of Limousin cattle is as old as the European continent itself with cave drawings estimated to be 16,000 years old in near Montignac, France, having a striking resemblance to today’s Limousin. Limousin cattle are native to the south central part of France in the regions of Limousin and Marche. The first Limousin cattle were first imported into Ireland in 1971. Their high kill out percentage combined with easy calving & hybrid vigour crossbreeding genetics make Limousin cattle the natural choice for Pedigree & Commercial breeders.
